EPSRC Hub for Quantitative Modelling in Healthcare
The project is funded by a £1.2 million award from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), 1 February 2021 to 31 January 2026.
Our vision
Working in collaboration with internationally leading clinical research groups in diabetes, microbial and mental health we will advance quantitative modelling techniques that transform healthcare therapies, treatments and delivery.
Research themes
- Theme 1: Uncertainty quantification (UQ) for computational modelling in biomedicine and healthcare.
- Theme 2: Reversibility and Resilience (RR): A Mathematical Approach to Evolving Microbial Communities.
Mission
The Hub will facilitate the Clinical Translation and Engagement with Partners through funding activities including Feasibility Projects, Mini-projects driven by our Early Career Researchers and Health Datathons/Hackathons/Study Groups.
Research networks
We are a collaborative research community involving over 100 scientists. We utilise quantitative techniques to understand complex biological and biomedical systems. Our interactions are genuinely interdisciplinary. Quantitative science reveals unsuspected and entirely new worlds within biology and medicine. In turn, biology and medicine inspire major new developments in computation, mathematics and statistics. Such approach is key to tackling current health challenges including infections, dementia, diabetes as well as neurological and mental health illnesses.
