Estate Services
Estate Services is responsible for the planning, management and development of the University estate, and ensuring it is fit for purpose to meet the aims and objectives of the University.
The teams of Built Estate, Engineering & Direct Works and Grounds make up the directory of Estate Services with each ensuring that our physical and natural spaces are both safe and support the University’s vision of creating graduates of distinction.
All together this represents the employment of 140 specialists in construction project management, building surveying, mechanical and electrical engineering, strategic planning, arboriculture and horticulture specialists as well as specialist trade staff.

James Hutchinson - Director of Estate Services

Helen Wallace - Head of Space and Design
Helen provides specialist advice and service that supports all aspects of the use of space including layout, furniture and building data management. This also includes developing and delivering strategic action plans for improvements in the effective and sustainable use of space. Acting as a change agent to deliver such improvements, whilst maintaining and enhancing the student experience and the working environment.

Robin Holloway - Assistant Director, Capital Development
Robin leads a team who deliver capital development projects across our campuses, enabling the University’s Strategy 2030. Further information can be found on the Capital Strategy website.

Alan Orgee - Assistant Director of Operations, Engineering & Direct Works
Alan provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the effective delivery of core estate functions across the University’s diverse and complex built environment. This encompasses the management of engineering services, projects and minor works, planned and reactive maintenance, and assurance of statutory and regulatory compliance. Working in collaboration with academic and professional services stakeholders, ensuring the estate supports the University's strategic aims through resilient, safe, and sustainable infrastructure, aligned with sector best practice and the evolving demands of a world-class higher education institution.

Ian Millar - Assistant Director Built Environment
Ian manages a team of assistant surveyors, surveyors and senior surveyors and clerk of works supporting the University's capital and long term maintenance programmes. Ian has responsibility for the University's built estate, including business rates, strategic planning, implementation of minor works and planning and delivery of substantial long term/backlog maintenance.
